The Snake Plant Mikado has thin, fleshy spike-shaped leaves. The leaves narrow to a point and make quite an architectural statement in any room. As with other snake plants, these succulents are extremely easy to look after, are experts at purifying the air, and can also tolerate low light conditions making them one of the best plants for beginners or stress-free plant parenting.

About Snake Plant Mikado

History

The Snake Plant Mikado was categorised as part of the Sansevieria genus by Swedish naturalist Carl Thunberg in 1794. In 2017 new findings, enabled by improvements in modern-day DNA studies, removed the Snake Plant from its original genus, placing it into the Dracaena genus instead, along with the Corn Plant and Dragon Tree.

Cultivation

The Snake Plant Mikado is a variety of succulents most often found in Africa, from Congo to Madagascar and Southeast Asia. They are usually found in arid climates and, due to their water-storing, succulent leaves, are tolerant to drought.

Care

As houseplants, Snake Plants are very easy to look after. They enjoy bright, indirect light but can tolerate shade and don't require any additional humidity to be happy. They are prone to root rot if overwatered, so it’s important to plant them in soil that drains well and only water them when the top half of their soil is completely dry

Did you know?

According to the NASA clean air study, Snake Plants are effective at removing pollutants from the air, including formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene.

Snake Plant Mikado

I'm autistic and I love touching this snake plant - it has a sandy feel that's somehow calming. Might get another one.
