About Potato Vine

History

Potato Vine is also known as Nightshade Jasmine is an evergreen climber native to Brazil. It produces flowers star-shaped scented flowers, with a scent similar to Jasmine.

Cultivation

Potato Vine grows best in moist, well-drained soil in a sunny sheltered spot. It will require a wall, trellis or tree to grow up for support. Although its scent is similar to Jasmine, it has a softer scent which can be less irritating to people with allergies.

Care

Place in a shaded, sunny spot with a trellis for support. Trim back any dead growth in early spring.

Did you know?

Solanum jasminoides has a similar appearance and scent to Jasmine, but it is actually closer related to potatoes. It is part of the nightshade family, which includes poisonous plants such as the Potato Vine as well as edibles such as potatoes and tomatoes.
