Dypsis lutescens care guide
Dypsis lutescens, also commonly called Areca palm or butterfly palm, is a tropical, flowering plant native to Madagascar. Being native to the tropics, Areca palms are happiest in a bright spot, warm spot and enjoys extra humidity.
Dypsis lutescens generally enjoy bright indirect light and can handle some direct sunshine. The best spot to keep your Dypsis lutescens would be next to an east or west facing window or a few metres back from a south facing window.
Dypsis lutescens are heavy feeders and requires fertilising twice a year. You should feed your Dypsis lutescens during the growing season, between May and August, using a liquid fertiliser diluted in water.
As a tropical plant Dypsis lutescens enjoys quite a lot of water. Do the finger dip test before watering to ensure you don’t overwater it, as this can lead to root rot. Wilting leaves and dry sign is a sign the plant is thirsty. But don’t worry, it will perk back up once it's been watered
