Caring for your Ficus benjamina
Ficus benjamina Sunlight
Ficus benjamina like bright indirect sunlight and will also appreciate a little direct sun. Too much direct sunlight can scorch your plants' leaves, so aim for a spot near a window that is sheltered from direct sunlight.
Ficus benjamina Soil & Nutrients
Ficus benjamina needs well-draining soil and any quick-draining potting mix will suffice. Weeping figs are hungry plants, so apply a liquid fertiliser monthly during the growing season (May to August) or apply slow-release pellets in the spring.
Ficus benjamina Water
Ficus benjamina like moist soil so top yours up when the top of the soil is dry. Make sure it doesn’t sit in standing water and reduce watering in the winter months. Dropping leaves can indicate overwatering.
Ficus benjamina Climate & Humidity
Due to their tropical origins, weeping figs like warm and humid conditions. Avoid cold or dry conditions and consider increasing humidity by misting your plant. Dry leaves indicate insufficient humidity and weeping figs sometimes drop leaves due to a change in environment, particularly if humidity is reduced.
Ficus benjamina Maintenance
Ficus benjamina grow quickly in the right conditions and may need repotting yearly in the spring. Prune any dead branches or leaves, preferably when the plant is dormant in the winter.
