About Begonia ‘Evening Glow’

History

The genus Begonia was named by the monk and botanist Charles Plumier in 1700, after French botanist Michel Begon. Begonias were introduced to England in 1777. By 1850, there were 200 species known in Europe, which has now increased to 1000 recognised species.

Cultivation

Begonias are relatively easy to propagate using leaves. This can be done by pinning a leaf to compost and making occasional slits through the leaf's veins.

Care

Although Begonias boast intricate patterns and leaf forms, they are relatively easy to care for. Begonia 'Evening Glow' likes high humidity, so enjoy being placed on a tray of pebbles and water. Avoid misting or getting water on the foliage, as this can lead to powdery mildew.

Did you know?

The first Begonia to reach England was sent from Jamaica.

Toxicity

If ingested this plant can be toxic or poisonous so keep away from dogs, cats or other pets and small children.
