Grow your herbs at home using The Stem Grow Your Own Herb Kit. Each box comes with seeds to grow five different culinary herbs; basil, mint, thyme, oregano and parsley.

The kit is plastic and peat-free and contains everything you need to get growing, including coir pots, coir disks and a step-by-step growing guide. These can be grown indoors year-round.

Mint, scientific name Mentha, is a fast-growing plant that thrives in wet climates and is often found in the wild near bodies of water. Mint has long been used for medicinal, culinary and cosmetic purposes, with the ancient Greeks believing that rubbing it on arms would improve strength. In the modern-day, mint is used all over the globe for a variety of purposes from making tea to adding to lamb dishes.


Basil is a culinary herb native to the tropical regions of central Africa to southeast Asia and is commonly used in both Italian and Asian cuisine. Not introduced to Britain until the 16th century, basil has been used by humans for over 4,000 years, found in the mummies of Egypt who used the herb for embalming. With a sweet and pungent flavour, basil can be ground to make pesto or added to a tomato pasta sauce.


Thyme is an aromatic herb indigenous to the Mediterranean that's use dates back to the ancient Egyptians. The spread of Thyme through Europe is thought to be due to the Romans, who used it to flavour cheeses and liqueurs. Thyme is now used in many cuisines including British, African and Caribbean and can be used whole or de-stemmed. The thyme plant is robust and will flourish grown indoor at home.


Oregano, scientific name Origanum vulgare, is a flowering plant native to the Mediterranean region. It is one of the most commonly used herbs worldwide. As well as being a staple for Italian cooking thyme is used in Turkey to marinate meat and in Greece to flavour salads. Although most commonly used as a dried herb, the flavour of oregano is more pronounced if used fresh.


Parsley is a versatile herb commonly used in Middle Eastern cooking as both a garnish and spice. Parsley has been cultivated for over 2,000 years and was used for medicinal purposes before being consumed as a food. Parsley thrives in moist soil and likes to be kept in a little shade.
