Weeping Fig Plant Care

Learn All About Weeping Fig Care with our Guide

Weeping fig, or ficus tree, is native to Asia and Australia and is the official tree of Bangkok. This fast grower likes lots of indirect sunlight and may need regular pruning and repotting.

Caring for your Weeping Fig

Weeping figs like bright indirect sunlight and will also appreciate a little direct sun. Too much direct sunlight can scorch your plants' leaves, so aim for a spot near a window that is sheltered from direct sunlight.

Soil & Nutrients

A weeping fig needs well-draining soil and any quick-draining potting mix will suffice. Weeping figs are hungry plants, so apply a liquid fertiliser monthly during the growing season (May to August) or apply slow-release pellets in the spring.

Weeping figs like moist soil so top yours up when the top of the soil is dry. Make sure it doesn’t sit in standing water and reduce watering in the winter months. Dropping leaves can indicate overwatering.

Climate & Humidity

Due to their tropical origins, weeping figs like warm and humid conditions. Avoid cold or dry conditions and consider increasing humidity by misting your plant. Dry leaves indicate insufficient humidity and weeping figs sometimes drop leaves due to a change in environment, particularly if humidity is reduced.

Weeping figs grow quickly in the right conditions and may need repotting yearly in the spring. Prune any dead branches or leaves, preferably when the plant is dormant in the winter.
